今日もひたすら野菜と向き合う。ジャガ芋の芽をかいたり、
玉葱の皮を剥いたり、袋に詰めたり値段をつけたり…
うむ、根気がいるが、いい仕事だ。
朝、身震いするくらい野菜の箱がたくさん積まれて、それでも地道にていねいに
手を入れて、店頭に新鮮な野菜が並び賑やかになり、夕方にはバックヤードもすっきり。
お客さんがじっくり手に取って野菜たちが売れてゆくとうれしい。
合間をぬって塩尻の天然酵母パンの店、きんぴら工房さんへパンを取りに行った。
きんぴら工房さんは、こんなところでよく商売を…！と思うような
街はずれにあって、赤松ぐるりの森の中。
雨だったのでむんむん草木と土の香りがしてきもちよかった。
5月の山は躍動感があるなあ。
木の造りできもちのよい建物。
小麦など自分の畑で作っていて、山仕事もするというので、
おやじさんに会うのをとても楽しみにしていたが、
気さくでおちゃめで言葉が通じて、いい人だった。
土曜日にある限りの力を出し切ってひたすらパンを焼いているそうだ。
酵母を自分で育てている人の作るパンって、どうしてもその人らしさが
ふんだんににじむのでおもしろい。
きんぴらさんのパンはおちゃめで表情ゆたかで力のあるパンたちで、
お店で扱っているパンのなかじゃいちばん楽しみっていうか…
なんだか特別かわいいなと思う。

Mrs. Agathe’s dishwasher quit working so she called a repairman. Since she had to go to work the next day, she told him, “I’ll leave the key under the mat. Fix the dishwasher, leave the bill on the counter, and I’ll mail you the check. Oh, and by the way…don’t worry about my Doberman. He won’t bother you. But, whatever you do, do NOT under ANY circumstances talk to my parrot!” When the repairman arrived at Mrs. Agathe’s apartment the next day, he discovered the biggest and meanest looking Doberman he had ever seen. But just as she had said, the dog simply laid there on the carpet, watching the repairman go about his business. However, the whole time the parrot drove him nuts with his incessant cursing, yelling and name-calling. Finally the repairman couldn’t contain himself any longer and yelled, “Shut up, you stupid ugly bird!” To which the parrot replied, “Get him, Spike!”
